Programming & Maintenance
- Software: Programmed using GX Developer or GX Works2
- Communication: Uses a circular 8-pin RS-422 port. To connect to a modern PC, you typically need an SC-09 adapter or a USB-to-RS422 converter.
- Battery: This unit requires an internal lithium battery (FX2N-40BAT) to retain the program and data registers during power loss.
Replacement and updated model
- FX3U-80MR/ES-A: The direct “drop-in” successor. It has the same physical dimensions and terminal layout, making it easy to swap without rewiring. You can usually convert the FX2N program to FX3U within the software easily.
- FX5U-80MR/ES: The current flagship micro-PLC. It is much more powerful and includes built-in Ethernet, but it has a different physical footprint and requires different software (GX Works3).
